Cardigan's Corner of the Web webbing

February 1, 2006

This date marks the tenth anniversary of Cardigan's Corner of the Web. Hard for me to believe, honestly. Seems like only yesterday I was uploading my first articles, along with some poetry and other stuff. The site has been through many changes over the years, with sections coming and going. And the 'net itself has changed quite a bit, too. When the Corner was in its first few years of existence, it was a very popular site. Back then, there simply weren't that many personal websites online that had any kind of real content. But as the years have passed, more and more excellent sites have come around. I'd planned a large restructuring of this site for the tenth anniversary. But life sort of got in the way of that grandiose idea. And honestly, articles I really felt good about have become rarer and rarer over the years.

So, after much inner debate, I've decided to end the run on this anniversary.

In "honor" of this milestone, I've removed many of the sections that simply didn't need to be there any longer. (Actually, I've just removed the links to them. If you're one of those few who bookmarked the sub-pages, you won't have difficulty accessing them. And of course, search engines will still find them.) I've kept the sections that were updated regularly: Cardigan's Page of Wonder and Sage's Soapbox. Each was updated monthly, so there are 120 articles in each of these. The twenty Cardigan On... articles also remain. But none of these sections will be updated again. They remain only for archival purposes. And below this text is a search engine you can use to see if any particular topic has been covered in those 260 articles.

One section will, however, continue to be updated, whenever the mood strikes me. But ironically, most people who visit it don't even realize it is part of a larger site. The Atheist Attic, which has been online only two years fewer than the Corner itself, is still quite popular, but most people find it through direct topical searches, not through this parent site. I will update it, but probably not monthly.

I want to thank all my regular visitors over the years. It's been a gas. Really. I've enjoyed it. But it's time, I think, to put this site to bed.

Thank you. And goodnight.
