Books, Lies and Vilification

Recently, my wife and I were in one of those remaindered book warehouses. You know the ones… they've got table after table of books laid out, and they're marked down as much as 80% off the cover prices. And this is largely because the books are old. You'll find a table of computer books, for example, and they're all focusing on the previous versions of operating systems and software applications. Nothing current.

Well, one small table caught our eyes. It was a table of children's religious books. Driven by some sick desire to see just what kind of bullshit our impressionable kiddies are being subjected to, we picked one up and thumbed through it.

The sick desire soon turned to true stomach-turning.

The section of the book we'd turned to, you see, was talking about Halloween. And it was talking of how Halloween, in ancient times, was a pagan festival of evil, complete with ritual sacrifices and whatnot. A pack of utter lies, in other words. My wife and I have many pagan friends, and to see their Samhain festival so blatantly vilified just made us want to throw up.

There were lots of books on this little table. I glanced at the title of one, and while I can't recall it right now, it was a title that was pro-Creationism, anti-Evolution.

And these are books for kids, folks! Judging by the style of writing and the artwork, I'm guessing they were aimed at the 5 to 8-year old crowd.

If we need any sort of additional evidence that the goal of religions is often to brainwash young children, to lie to them and convince them that everything else is wrong… this was undeniably it.

I still want to throw up, just thinking about it.
