I'm going to suggest something that may take my readers by surprise. It has to do with the push to have the Ten Commandments posted in public schools and other government facilities.
I'm in favor of it.
Yup. That's right. I'm all for it. Let's hang 'em up there for one and all to see.
Okay, yes, I know there are issues. The First Amendment thing. Deciding which of the three versions of the Ten Commandments in the Bible to use. Stuff like that.
But come on. These are The Rules, folks! Rules that cannot be broken. If they're broken, we get punished.
So I'm in favor of the Ten Commandments, and I have to say that anyone who's in favor of the Ten Commandments had better be in favor of the punishments that go with them. The punishments are God's word, too! To violate the Commandments and not use God's own expressed punishment for the transgression is nothing short of sacrilege!
The Bible tells us that those who kill must be killed! It is the word of God! (Lev. 24:17)
The Bible tells us that those who work on the Sabbath must be killed! It is the word of God! (Ex. 31:15)
The Bible tells us that those who commit adultery must be killed! It is the word of God! (Lev. 20:10)
The Bible tells us that anyone who sacrifices to any other god will be utterly destroyed! It is the word of God! (Ex. 22:20)
The Bible tells us that any who blaspheme the name of the Lord will be killed! It is the word of God! (Lev. 24:16)
The Bible tells us that anyone who curses his mother or father will be killed! It is the word of God! (Ex. 21:17)
These are the words of God! We must obey them, just as we must obey the Commandments, for they are also the words of God!
I challenge anyone, and I mean anyone, to tell me honestly that they feel these words of God should be obeyed. Should those who so much as pick up sticks in their yard on the Sabbath be stoned to death?
Come on, you pious believers! Stand up and tell me you think we should honor these words of God!
Are they not to be followed? If not, why not? God takes the Commandments seriously, obviously. So should we! Kill anyone who doesn't follow them! That's what God says!
Something tells me that I'm not likely to get many people standing up in favor of this. I wonder why. Is it, perhaps, because the punishments are ridiculously severe?
The only Commandment that should ever be considered worthy of a death sentence is the one against killing. Of course, I know a lot of anti-capital punishment sorts who'd even disagree with that.
The fact is that the vast majority of those who constantly push for public placement of the Commandments are utterly unaware of the Bible's own punishments for those who break them. Those who are aware of them just wave them off in yet another example of selective application of the word of God. They simply choose not to believe those parts.
Well, guess what? "He that believeth not, shall be damned." (Mark 16:16)
It is the word of God!
