Over the years, I've met more different types of theist than I ever thought I could. Some of them are unbearably irritating, others are sweet and kind-hearted. But there's one particular type that just baffles me. I don't know how else to describe them except to say that they seem to be "high on Christ."
Every one of these I've met so far has been male, and young… usually teenaged, sometimes early twenties. I've met them on bulletin boards, chat rooms, and email lists. And yes, one or two in person. These guys literally act like they're ripped on something. In person, they have glassy eyes and smile stupidly all the time. They talk like they really think they're being "groovy."
In print, they're little different. They'll deliberately replace final letter "g's" in words with apostrophes and use other conversational tones in writing. For example: "You gotta believe me, dude, havin' faith in Jesus is jus' the coolest thing in the whole freakin' world!"
Who in their right mind types as though they're stoned?
I concluded long ago that this behavior is deliberate. Their goal is to make you believe that their particular brand of faith (which is always simply "Christian," with no denomination attached) will make you feel high all the time.
With me, their tactic is lost. See, I've never wanted to behave like a stoned idiot, which is one of the reasons I don't do drugs. Including religion.
