The Ten Commandments (As They Should Have Been Written)
I've long felt that the Ten Commandments were in dire need of rewriting. Lots of people have done so, in fact, and some of them are quite good. Below is my light-hearted attempt at it, with edicts that strike me as being far more relevant to humanity. Okay, and maybe a cheap shot or two at believers and their leaders.
I
Thou shalt have no gods at all
II
Thou shalt not worship images nor imaginary beings
III
Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in seriousness
IV
Remember the Sabbath as just another day
V
Honor thy father and mother, if they are worthy of honor
VI
Thou shalt not kill, especially in the name of God
VII
Thou shalt not commit adultery, nor in any way betray trust placed in thee
VIII
Thou shalt not steal, nor coerce money from the gullible
IX
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor, nor propagate inane mythologies
X
Thou shalt not covet thy congregation's wealth
