Not Quite KoogleFor those of you who don't know it, yet: those clever folks at Procter & Gamble have come out with flavored versions of Jif Peanut Butter. There's Apple Cinnamon, Berry Blend, and Chocolate Silk, and they're called Smooth Sensations. This brought fond memories back to me. Memories of another flavored peanut butter available a couple decades ago, called Koogle. Koogle was manufactured by Kraft Foods, Inc., and came in four flavors: Chocolate, Vanilla, Cinnamon, and Banana. It was introduced in 1974, and (sadly) vanished for good in late '75 or early '76. Koogle was a kid's dream. Flavored peanut butter! How awesome! This was nothing like Smucker's Goober peanut butters… you know, the ones with grape or strawberry jelly actually inserted into the peanut butter in big stripes. (Not that I'm knocking the Goober stuff, mind you.) I did a web search for Koogle, but only came up with pages of others who also reminisce about the stuff. But it seems no one's done a Koogle tribute page or anything. Of the JIF products, I've only tried the chocolate one, so far. It's quite tasty, though nowhere near the delightful splendor of Nutella.
