  3. Why do I need to join Bee.Net to access the Internet?

The Internet is a world wide network of computers, many of which store information accessible by the other computers on the network. For you to browse the Internet, send and receive e-mail,and use other Internet services, your computer must also be connected to that network.  Bee.Net provides you the ability to make the Internet connection using your current phone line and a local access phone number.

In technical terms, Bee.Net provides a PPP connection for your computer to communicate interactively with other computers on the Internet using TCP/IP, the communication protocol of the Internet.

  4. How do I find information on the Internet?

There are a variety of ways to find information on the Internet. Two of the most popular methods are by using on-line search programs and by looking up addresses in Internet directories which can be purchased at book and computer stores.  Popular search services include Lycos and Yahoo.

Some companies offer pay services on the Internet. You will not be charged for pay services unless you complete registration information provided by the service vendor. We strongly advise against submitting credit card information over the Internet.

  5. How do I apply for an account?

Complete the application using one of the following methods:

    • Use our secure online application form.
    • If you do not have Internet access, you may obtain an application by calling Customer Service at either 610-280-2274 or 1-888-4BeeNet (toll free). You may return the completed application by either fax or mail.

Your account will be activated within one business day after we receive your application. In most cases we will be able to activate your account on the same day we receive your application. Confirmation of account activation and Internet access software (if requested) will be mailed to you.

  6. When will I be able to start using Bee.Net's services?

Once your account is set-up, you will have unlimited/unrestricted interactive access to the Internet.

  7. What services and software are provided with my account?

Individual and business flat rate plans include unlimited/unrestricted Internet browsing, an E-mail account, and access to over 27,000 newsgroups. Many of our new customers aready have the necessary Internet software on their computers. However, we do provide free software and/or support to assist both PC and Macintosh users to browse and send e-mail on the Internet. For PC users we can provide preconfigured Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mail and News software. For Macintosh users we can provide freePPP dialer software and Eudora Light e-mail software. In addition, we can assist MAC users who choose to use browser software from Netscape or Microsoft. We have extensive support documents to assist our Macintosh customers in choosing and configuring software. In addition, Bee.Net hosts the web site of the Main Line Macintosh Users Group.

Software may also be downloaded from the author's sites from links provided on the Software page of Bee.Net's Web site, and from the Macintosh support page. There are a number of web sites from which shareware, freeware, and evaluation copies of popular Internet software can be obtained.  One of the more popular PC software sites is at http://cws.iworld.com.

  8. What are my computer system requirements for connecting to the Internet?

Your computer must be either an IBM compatible PC computer running a current version of Microsoft Windows, (3.1, 3.11, 95, NT 3.51 or NT 4.0), or a Macintosh computer with an operating system capable of running MacTCP or Open Transport. Micro processor, RAM and harddrive requirements vary; however, if you are successfully running the operating systems listed, you likely have the necessary equipment to connect to the Internet. Your modem should be capable of at least 9,600 baud. We highly recommend U.S. Robotics Sportster or Courier 33,600 capable modems.

You will be able to connect your computer modem to your regular phone line, using the standard phone cord included with your modem. Radio Shack and most hardware stores carry adapters which allow you to share a single phone jack with more than one device, (e.g. your phone and your computer modem). In addition, many computer mail order houses sell devices which allow you to connect your modem to PBX, Centrex, and other business phone systems.

  9. Will I incur toll or long distance charges when I browse the Internet or use e-mail?

Bee.Net is local to a large number of locations in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Review the local access chart to determine if accessing the Internet through Bee.Net will be a local call for you.
