Browser Test

This demonstration will show you what a visitor to your web page will experience if they submit a form that does not use a script. Since what happens is entirely dependent on the visitor's browser (here, you are the visitor), we can only show you what a visitor using your browser would experience. The limitations of this method are that not all browsers support it and those that do give little feedback to the user (visitor).

Clicking the "Browser Test" button will result in one of the following:

  1. a form will be submitted by your browser using email,
  2. your browser will open a window for you to send a message to <deadletter@nohost.bee.net>, or
  3. nothing at all will happen.
Click the "Browser Test" button now and see what happens.

Could you tell what happened? When (2) happens, its pretty obvious, but spotting the difference between (1) and (3) can be subtle. Some browsers have a status line that will tell you that they are sending a form by email. If you don't see that, you can wait for a returned message saying that your mail could not be delivered to <deadletter@nohost.bee.net> (this address was selected for its non-existence). Getting such a message indicates that your browser submitted the form properly. Usually, bad mail messages are returned quickly, but there is no guarantee of this. If you haven't gotten return mail in three to five days, its safe to assume that nothing happened (3).

The WebForm page explains the other advantages of using a Formalis WebForm script. For a more detailed look at this from the perspective of the page owner, see the Widget Web demonstration.
